Hero 101: The Basics

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on many topics regarding the Hero.  So, I thought I’d create a mini how-to FAQ for the most popular questions.

First, and arguably most important –

1. Perform a hard reset: A hard reset removes all information from your device and returns it to a state just like it has never been used before. All contacts, messages, emails, third-party applications, etc., will need to be reinstalled after performing a hard reset. To perform a hard reset:  from the Home screen tap Menu > Settings > Security > Factory data reset. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete. This process will take 5-10 minutes.

2.  Uninstall an App:

a. Go to Settings.

b. Press Applications

c. Press Manage Applications

d. Scroll down until you find the desired app. [BE CAREFUL!! DOUBLE CHECK YOU ARE CHOOSING THE CORRECT APP!]

e. Press the App.

f. Press Uninstall, then press Ok.

Those are the 2 most critical tasks you should know with any smart phone, least of all the Hero.  These abilities will get you out of just about any issue you will have with your phone that a battery pull won’t fix.

Most issues with the Hero can be resolved or prevented by simple maintenance.  Powering down your phone once a day (I do it first thing in the morning) is like re-booting your computer.  It clears everything out and gives you a fresh start for the day.  Make sure that you actually EXIT apps that you are not using, and not just leaving them running in the background.  This is one of the times where a Task Killer could be useful.  Periodically delete your call history.  It has been reported that too many entries in this can cause the sluggish operation of the Hero.  Finally, delete old threads in your SMS app!  That’s just more data the phone has to churn through each time you use that app.

I’ll leave you with the one piece of advice that every gadget-loving geek should have ingrained in his/her brain:  READ THE MANUAL!!  Lol.  If you still don’t understand, then hit the forums!  If you can’t find your answer here, or My Tech Life, there are many Android related forums on the Net.

About Me…

I’m a complete and total card carrying techno-geek and proud of it.  LOL!  I’m also a father of a beautiful young lady who is turning into a techophile in her own right.  I have been into technology ever since I had my first computer, a TRS-80.  It was love at first sight!

I am into everything from computers, game consoles, handheld devices and everything in between. My current passion is wireless tech and cellphones.

So basically, my blog is about technology I find interesting, how it affects my life, and my life in general.  Sound interesting?  I hope so.  Ciao!
