Don’t have your Blackberry visible to your date, whether on your body and definitely NOT on the dinner table.

Keep your Blackberry ringer on quiet or a very subtle ring.

Please don’t wear an headset wired or bluetooth during your date.

Do NOT text, email or take calls unless it’s an Emergency!

If at all possible just leave your Blackberry at home or in the car if you don’t feel you can follow steps 1-4. Your date will appreciate you for doing so.

The steps listed above will increase the possibility of a successful and enjoyable date. I however, have not successfully followed any of the 5 steps listed above. So don’t do as I do, do as I write; I mean earnestly speaking what blackberry addict could?

Truthfully this guy and I got along quite well. I enjoyed his conversation, he was intelligent, fun, witty and nice to look at, that’s always a plus! The only problem we seemed to have is that we were both paying as much or more attention to our smart phones as we were to one another. There were times when I was speaking and he was reading and glancing intensely at his iPhone, I began to feel just a little irritated. Hmm… I wondered, is this why most of my dates want me to keep my Blackberry completely out of their sight? Is there anything wrong with them wanting my undivided attention? Maybe they would prefer to be looking into my eyes instead of looking at the top of my head while I glance down to read the new email or text message I just received.

The sad thing is I gave my Blackberry just as much attention as he gave his iPhone. When he would speak sometimes my full attention was on my Blackberry and his voice was just a noise in the background. Decent men are a very rare commodity these days and I thought to myself is it really this serious? Why can’t I stop looking at this freaking Blackberry? Smart phone addiction is true and real. I guess all I can say earnestly speaking is Blackberry Love Runs Deep…

The drive to the restaurant was fun, we chatted laughed and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Once we arrived at the restaurant were seated, let’s just say the atmosphere certainly changed for the worst. We ordered our drinks and meals and we began to chat - well, I don’t know if we were chatting. I was running my mouth but I didn’t seem to have a willing audience. This girl just kept glancing down and over at her Blackberry 8900, sitting on the table like it was about to get up and quickly run away . The phone LED wasn’t lighting up it wasn’t doing anything but sitting there minding it’s own business. Every 10-20 seconds or so she would divert her eyes down and over to her Blackberry on the table. I could not keep her attention no matter what I said. It looked like she had a nervous tick or something, glance at me, glance down and look over at the Blackberry. After about 10-15 minutes of this I wanted to slap her, tell her to shake it off and get a grip but instead our food arrived looking and smelling good.

While enjoying our meal she would take a bite or two, reach over and actually pick her Blackberry up as though she were sure she’d missed a very important message. At this point, I realized trying to hold a conversation was futile and I decided to enjoy my meal. I definitely wasn’t enjoying my girlfriend’s company. After eating we would normally sit and talk about anything and everything but tonight I made an excuse about being overly tired so we left the restaurant directly after eating.

I waited a day or two to have a conversation about our dinner date. That conversation absolutely had to take place. I won’t go into long details about the conversation but Blackberry Addiction is real, right now she’s in the denial phase of her addiction. I am even the more enlightened when it comes to Blackberry Love and Blackberry Dependency. Earnestly Speaking Blackberry Addiction and “The Blackberry Nervous Tick” are a reality for many everyday!

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday, thousands of Americans are sending financial support — through their mobile phones.

Anyone with a mobile phone and an account with a major wireless carrier can text the phrase “Haiti” to the number 90999 and donate $10 to the Red Cross. That amount is charged to the donor’s cellphone bill.

The texted donations are being handled by a company called mGive, which started the campaign in a joint effort with the State Department and the Red Cross late Tuesday night. Thanks to a mention on the White House’s blog and lots of word of mouth on Twitter and Facebook, the campaign had raised well over a million dollars by Tuesday evening, mGive said…

In another campaign that Twitter users are publicizing widely, the Haitian-born musician Wyclef Jean is urging people to donate $5 to his charity organization by texting “YELE” to 501501.
