Earnestly Speaking: Will You Be My Valentine?

Earnestly Speaking: Will You Be My Valentine?

Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions.

To all my Blackberry, Android, iPhone and smart phones friends I want to simple say, “LEAVE YOUR PHONES IN THE CAR OR AT HOME!”  I will take this opportunity to share with you, once again, the rules of Blackberry Date Etiquette.

  1. Don’t have your Blackberry visible to your date, whether on your body and definitely NOT on the dinner table.
  2. Keep your Blackberry ringer on quiet or a very subtle ring.
  3. Please don’t wear an headset wired or bluetooth during your date.
  4. Do NOT text, email or take calls More >

The Word in My Life – Get back up … again

The Word in My Life – Get back up … again

“for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again …” (Proverbs 24:16)

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.” Confucius

There’s a well known story in the Bible – the miraculous healing of the woman with the issue of blood.  For twelve years she’d been bleeding and had spent all of her money going to doctors, trying to find the cure for her illness.  The Bible does not tell us for certain what her life was like, but she very well may have been an outcast because of her condition.  I imagine being sick More >

Hero 101: The Basics

Hero 101: The Basics

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on many topics regarding the Hero.  So, I thought I’d create a mini how-to FAQ for the most popular questions.

First, and arguably most important –

1. Perform a hard reset: A hard reset removes all information from your device and returns it to a state just like it has never been used before. All contacts, messages, emails, third-party applications, etc., will need to be reinstalled after performing a hard reset. To perform a hard reset:  from the Home screen tap Menu > Settings > Security > Factory data reset. Follow the on-screen prompts to More >

The Word in My Life – The Winds of Change

The Word in My Life – The Winds of Change

“…all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.” Job 14:14

“It’s been a long time coming but I know my change’s gonna come.” Sam Cooke

Most folks who know me and speak to me on a regular basis will soon find that I am a proponent of change.  Even before Obama ran for president, my platform was change!  Because I have lived through it, I can say that ultimately, CHANGE IS GOOD.  It’s scary, but good.  I’ve seen its devastating effects but I’ve also watched as new life sprang from the ashes.  I listened in on a seminar once More >

Bringing the Hero to Task

Bringing the Hero to Task

Welcome to the first installment of Living the Hero Life; a weekly column focusing on the Sprint HTC Hero Android phone, and touching on the Android community at large.

I thought a perfect topic to kick things off was one that is a question for a lot of Hero owners.  Should I use a Task Killer? Let’s pursue this further…

First of all let’s define, “Task Killer”.  A Task Killer is a utility app (application) designed to give the user control over the running and “killing” (closing) of apps on the phone.

The reason for the debate is this:  It has not been proven More >

Open Home: Themes and Skins on My Moto Blur

Open Home is a home replacement app for Android. It allows users to customize all aspects of their Home screen including font/color, icons and customized themes.  Many themes are available for download in the Android market.

I am currently running Open Home Full on my Moto Blur and wanted to share a few screen shots of some the Themes and Skins I prefer, thus far.  The Shortcut text on my Home Screen is part a font pack I downloaded for Open Home and the fact that my Shortcuts text have no background is also something you can manipulate with Open Home.  More >
